More Bersatu leaders should speak up on everyday issues, not just Muhyiddin, says Chegubard

PORT DICKSON: Port Dickson Bersatu is denying claims that it wants party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to make way for his deputy Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

Its division head Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, said his team supported Muhyiddin, who had a proven track record.

“In one of the motions endorsed during our meeting on Sunday (July 6), we merely asked the president to empower more leaders to speak on people-related issues.

“We did not at any point suggest that Muhyiddin should make way for Hamzah,” he told reporters at the party office here.

Badrul said the division also proposed that party vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Radzi Jidin, who is an academic and had worked in universities abroad, to also speak on issues instead of leaving it to Muhyiddin alone.

“What we want is the party and more of its leaders at all levels to be more visible rather than remain silent.

“Have there been any roadshows, press conferences or sharing of info on issues affecting the rakyat by us?” he asked, adding that the party should deal with people-related issues more effectively.

He said his team wanted more leaders to speak up on any weaknesses of the unity government, which he said has been grappling with a host of issues such as the implementation of the expanded sales and service tax, e-invoicing and the increasing cost of living.

It was previously reported that the division had suggested for the power transition plan be implemented immediately, granting the deputy president a significant role in day-to-day operations and representing the party in talks with other leaders.

Negri Sembilan Bersatu later reiterated its support for Muhyiddin to continue leading the party. Its chief Hanifah Abu Baker expressed the state liaison committee’s unwavering support for Muhyiddin to lead Perikatan Nasional in the upcoming 16th General Election.

Several other party leaders also came out in support of Muhyiddin.
