IGP visits cop who was stabbed while on patrol

KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail has visited the police officer who was stabbed in the stomach during a crime prevention round in Pudu.

He visited the injured policeman at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz in Cheras on Friday (Aug 1).

The country’s top cop visit was to give moral support to the cop and his family.

“It is also to ensure that his welfare is taken care of,” Kuala Lumpur police said in a statement today.

Among those who were present were acting KL police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad, Police Force secretary DCP Datuk Kamaruzaman Abdullah and Wangsa Maju OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Lazim Ismail.

It was previously reported a policeman was stabbed in the stomach during a crime prevention round at Pasar Pudu.

DCP Mohamed Usuf had said the incident occurred at about 12.55pm on Thursday (July 31).

“The victim along with four other policemen were checking a male suspect when he stabbed the policeman using a knife before escaping.

“He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment,” he said.

Acting on credible intelligence, DCP Mohamed Usuf said a 56-year-old man was detained in connection with the incident.

“Several items were seized including a 21.5cm knife, three transparent plastic packets filled with substances believed to be drugs,” he said.

He said the police would apply for a remand order on the suspect today.
