Six injured as factory bus crashes in hilly road near Air Itam

GEORGE TOWN: Six women sustained minor injuries when a factory bus carrying 30 people lost control and crashed on a winding uphill stretch near Suria Vista Apartment along Jalan Paya Terubong, Air Itam, on Monday morning (Aug 11).

The incident occurred at about 7.24am when the bus, ferrying workers home from a factory, reportedly suffered brake failure while travelling from Kampung Jawa towards Paya Terubong.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department’s final report, the vehicle skidded at a bend on the hilly road before coming to a stop.

Fire and Rescue personnel from the Paya Terubong station, led by PBK II Mohamad Syafizani Mohd Rosli, arrived at the scene at 7.34am and began rescue operations to free those trapped inside.

All 30 occupants, including the driver, were successfully evacuated.

The six injured passengers were identified as Isanur Laila, 25; Rosnani Silitonga, 23; Meisi, 25; Marian, 25; Rohana, 26; and Sonia, 22, all Indonesian nationals, who suffered minor injuries to the face, hands, and legs, while the remaining 24, including the driver, were unharmed.

They were handed over to Health Ministry ambulance personnel and taken to hospital for treatment.

Firefighters also cleared accident debris to ensure the area was safe before ending the operation at 8.27am.

Police and Health Ministry personnel were also present at the scene.
