HK Man Arrested For Allegedly Mixing Urine Into Bottled Soft Drinks & Placing Them On Supermarket Shelves
Stephanie Chan2025-08-16T23:14:22+08:00A 63-year-old man from Hong Kong has been arrested under the suspicion of mixing urine into bottles of soft drinks and placing them on shelves in supermarkets located in Sham Shui Po, Mong Kok, and Wan Chai.
Last month, the police received reports stating that bottles of Coca-Cola and 7-Up sold in supermarkets had been contaminated with urine.
According to reports, a nine-year-old boy, who purchased and drank a bottle of coke which had a “strong urine-like odour”, fell ill, and was later sent to the hospital for treatment.
The incident led to an investigation on the matter, with police conducting intelligence analysis and reviewing the supermarket’s CCTV footage. The suspect, Lo, was allegedly caught on cam tampering with the bottles of soft drinks earlier this month.
Lo was arrested at his Sham Shui Po home, where the police were said to have found the same clothing and bag seen on the man in the CCTV video.
According to a statement from the authorities, Lo had decided to “seek revenge” after experiencing “unpleasant” encounters with supermarket staff — a very extreme reaction for someone dissatisfied with customer service, if you’re asking us.
Lo reported to the Kowloon City Magistrates’ Courts on Aug 12, where he was seen sporting a T-shirt that had the phrase “Enjoy Coca-Cola” printed on it. Was he basically owning up to the crime?
He was charged with “administering poison or other destructive or noxious thing with intent to injure”, and will be held in custody until his next hearing, which will take place in October after further investigation.
Lo’s behaviour was described by the police as a “serious and despicable” act. According to the authorities, seven bottles of drinks were seized, and were found to contain traces of urine, but not poison.
They also stated that most contaminated drinks were detected during routine checks. However, the public are also urged to check if their drink bottle caps have been tampered with, and to take note of any abnormality with the colour and volume drinks before consuming them.
