MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm warning for multiple states

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department issues a thunderstorm warning for several states and territories, in effect until 5pm on Thursday (Oct 2).

In Perlis, residents are advised to remain vigilant as severe weather is expected.

In Kedah, Kubang Pasu, Padang Terap, Sik and Baling are forecast to experience thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds.

Similarly, Larut, Matang and Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim in Perak are under the warning.

In Terengganu, residents should be prepared for adverse weather conditions while

Cameron Highlands, Bentong, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin in Pahang are included in the alert.

In Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Petaling, Hulu Langat and Sepang are expected to be affected, while Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya are also included in the warning.

In Negeri Sembilan, Jelebu, Seremban, Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah and Rembau are on alert for severe weather, while in Johor, Segamat, Mersing, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru are expected to face thunderstorms and heavy rain.

In Sarawak, the warning covers Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei and Bintulu.

In Sabah, interior districts such as Sipitang, Beaufort and Tambunan, as well as the West Coast, Tawau including Lahad Datu, and Sandakan including Kinabatangan, are forecast to experience adverse conditions.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
