Sabah polls: Only natural for Sabah Pakatan to support Sabah BN, says Bung

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Barisan Nasional expects the support of Pakatan Harapan in seats they are contesting against GRS candidates.

Sabah Barisan chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said it was only natural for Pakatan to support Barisan as Barisan is backing the federal unity government.

“We have 30 MPs in the federal government and GRS only have six. So they can think for themselves,” he told reporters after chairing the state Umno meeting here Monday (Oct 13).

He said they were proposing for Sabah Barisan (Umno, MCA, PBRS) to contest 48 seats in the state election and expected seat negotiations with Sabah Pakatan to be completed very soon.

Bung said the situation is dynamic and a bit complicated but is confident they will be able to resolve it soon.

On candidates, he said some 81% will be new faces with about 50% from this number comprising youth and women.

He added that the dates to name the candidates will be decided after the Election Commission’s meeting this Thursday (Oct 16).

“We will name our candidates and announce our new Aku Janji a week before nomination,” Bung said.

He said Sabah Barisan was 100% ready and was confident with mobilising all its 654,000 members, of which 474,200 were voters.
