Thunderstorm warning issued for six states
KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected across six states, with warnings in effect until 5pm on Tuesday (Oct 21).
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the affected states were Kedah, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor Sabah and Sarawak.
In Kedah, the district of Langkawi is on alert for severe weather.
In Negeri Sembilan, the district of Tampin is expected to be affected.
Melaka is also under the warning.
In Johor, areas such as Tangkak and Muar are forecasted to experience adverse conditions.
In Sarawak, the divisions of Sibu (Selangau), Mukah and Limbang are anticipated to be affected.
In Sabah, the Interior (Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort and Tambunan), West Coast (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud), Sandakan and Kudat divisions are on alert.
MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.
These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
