Benz Hui Revealed His Cancer Diagnosis in Final Interview Before His Death

In a posthumously aired interview, the beloved actor shared how he discovered his illness and handled it with calm and grace.

Fans of beloved TVB veteran Benz Hui are still coming to terms with his death, and now his final interview — released posthumously — reveals his private fight with kidney cancer.

Benz, who reportedly died from multiple organ failure caused by cancer on October 28 at the age of 76, appeared on Doctor and You – Talking Food and Health II, which aired on Tuesday (Nov 11).

The veteran actor who died at the age of 76 started acting in the ’70s and is best known for his portrayal of Foon Hei Gor in TVB’s Line Walker series (2016), and Inspector Wong in the film Running Out of Time (1999).

Though often cast in supporting roles, his versatility made him one of Hong Kong’s most beloved actors, even earning him the nickname “King of Supporting Roles.”

In a preview clip posted on YouTube, the ever-cheerful Benz opened up about how he discovered his illness last year.

“One day, I noticed that my urine was unusually dark. At first, I thought it was just heatiness, but when it didn’t improve after two weeks, I started to worry,” he shared.

After tests, doctors found blood in his urine and even detected a shadow in one of his kidneys.

Scans later confirmed the shadow to be a tumour.

Luckily, the cancer had not spread, and Benz immediately underwent kidney removal surgery.

In the interview, he recalled he was able to get out of bed the day after the surgery, surprising his doctor.

“The doctor asked me how I recovered so fast, and I joked, “It’s because you are good at your job!”

When asked if the ordeal affected his mood, Benz replied coolly that he treated it like another role.

“If I had already asked for the doctor’s advice, then I should trust their professional judgment. No need to overthink it,” he added.
