Ex-Screen Goddess Joey Wong Accused Of Exploiting Her Staff At Health Therapy Clinic

A person claiming to be her staff has accused the former actress of underpaying employees, despite charging customers high prices.

Former Taiwanese actress Joey Wong, 58, has been living in Canada since retiring from showbiz some 20 years ago.

In recent years, the ’90s screen beauty, who’s remained low-profile, opened a TCM moxibustion therapy clinic. She reportedly serves customers in person, attracting many fans to visit.

However, allegations against her have surfaced. An individual claiming to be an employee at her clinic has accused Joey of exploiting her staff and underpaying them.

According to screenshots circulated online, the staff claimed that although Joey’s clinic charges high treatment fees, costing around 480 to 600 Canadian dollars (S$415 to S$519) per customer, certified acupuncturists are paid only 30 CAD (S$28) an hour. The low pay allegedly made it hard for her staff to even cover their basic living expenses.

The staff also added that when employees requested a raise, Joey first pretended not to understand them, before coldly responding: “There are many customers. If you want to work, work.”

They claimed that although Joey appears polite, she relies on her fame and the ease of hiring staff to sustain her business. It has caused the staff’s “goddess” impression of Joey, which she admired for a long time, to completely be destroyed.

One netizen also complained about how they once paid 600 CAD (S$558) for a moxibustion session at Joey’s clinic, only to end up being burned, further fanning the flames of the controversy.

Joey has yet to respond to the allegations as of press time, and the authenticity of the alleged staff’s accusations also remains unverified.
