Shamsul Iskandar arrives at MACC HQ to record statement

PUTRAJAYA: Former senior political secretary to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, has arrived at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters on Friday (Nov 28) to assist in an investigation into allegations that he received bribes from businessman Albert Tei.

Shamsul Iskandar arrived at the graft busters’ headquarters at about noon to record his statement.

Sources said he is there to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Earlier, it was reported that Tei is believed to have been detained while his house has also been raided.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said previously that three individuals have so far been identified to provide statements in connection with the case.

“This includes a woman known as Sofia Rini Buyong.

“An investigation paper has been opened following a report by an online news portal alleging that Tei had given bribes to Shamsul Iskandar during his tenure as senior political secretary,” he said.

On Tuesday (Nov 25), Shamsul Iskandar confirmed he had submitted his resignation letter to Anwar.

In a statement on the X platform, he claimed there were attempts to target him with allegations that could tarnish the image of the Madani government.

Anwar said he accepted Shamsul’s resignation and reiterated that the MACC is free to conduct its investigation without any external interference regarding the allegations involving the former Hang Tuah Jaya member of parliament.
