While official reports stated suicide as the cause of death, unverified rumours say Coco may have become ill after consuming a drink from her helper.
New rumours have surfaced regarding the 2023 death of Mandopop diva Coco Lee, suggesting that her passing may not have been the result of suicide, as stated in the official reports.
Unverified claims circulating online allege that her death may have been linked to a drink given to her by a newly hired domestic helper.
According to the original official statement, Coco had long struggled with depression, and her condition reportedly worsened significantly in the summer before her passing.
On July 2, she attempted to take her own life at her Hong Kong residence and was rushed to the hospital. Three days later, on July 5, she passed away at the age of 48.
However, recent online posts claim that the circumstances may have been different.
These accounts allege that after consuming a beverage handed to her by the new helper, Coco experienced an immediate burning sensation in her throat and rushed to the bathroom to vomit.
As her condition deteriorated, she reportedly asked the helper to call an ambulance, but emergency treatment failed to save her.
Some sources further allege that Coco died from choking after vomit entered her lungs.
Her family reportedly requested an autopsy, but the publicly released cause of death remained as suicide.
The renewed rumours have sparked speculation among netizens, with some questioning whether Coco may have offended individuals in the entertainment industry and been targeted, while others doubt the credibility of these claims.
