Man arrested for misusing another person’s MyKad to redeem Budi95

PETALING JAYA: A 42-year-old local man has been arrested for allegedly using another individual’s MyKad to purchase subsidised petrol under the Budi95 initiative.

In a Facebook post, the National Registration Department’s (NRD) Enforcement division said the arrest was made following a complaint by the rightful MyKad owner, who discovered that the Budi95 aid had been redeemed without their knowledge at a Petron station in Gemencheh, Negri Sembilan.

The suspect was subsequently arrested at noon at a house in the Kampung Baru PPRT (Projek Perumahan Rakyat Termiskin) in Sungai Lerek, Negri Sembilan.

The case is being investigated under Regulations 25(1)(e) and 25(1)(o) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 (Amendment 2007), which criminalises the possession and misuse of a MyKad belonging to another person.

A remand application was filed on Saturday (Dec 27) at the Tampin Magistrate’s Court to facilitate further investigations.

The NRD warned that using someone else’s MyKad for any purpose, including claiming government aid, is a serious offence that can lead to legal action.

Members of the public who find a lost MyKad are urged to hand it over to the department or the nearest police station immediately.
