Foreigner found dead in George Town
GEORGE TOWN: A foreign national was found dead with head injuries at Gat Lebuh Macallum here at midnight on Monday (March 9).
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the victim, believed to be in his 20s, was found lying unconscious in an open area behind an apartment building.
He said the discovery was made by policemen from George Town police headquarters while conducting a crime prevention patrol at about 12.05am.
“Upon inspection, officers found a man lying unconscious with visible injuries to the head,” he said in a statement on Monday.
The victim’s death was later confirmed by paramedics from Hospital Pulau Pinang.
Initial observations at the scene indicated that the injuries were believed to have been caused by blows from a hard and blunt object.
There were no identification documents on the body.
A post-mortem conducted by the Forensic Medicine Department at Hospital Pulau Pinang later confirmed that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.
ACP Abdul Rozak said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and that police are conducting a thorough investigation.
He urged members of the public who may have information related to the case to contact the investigating officer, ASP Suhami Mat, at 019-2327008 to assist in the investigation.
