State polls: Three-way fight for Bandar Utama
PETALING JAYA: Bandar Utama is set to see a three-way fight between incumbent Jamaliah Jamaluddin and two first-time candidates eyeing the seat.
She will be up against Muda’s environmentalist Abe Lim and Gerakan’s Nur Aliff Mohd Tafid.
Kampung Tunku incumbent Lim Yi Wei is also seeking a second term and she will be defending her seat in a straight fight against Ruby Chin from Bersatu.
Chin was a former candidate for the Cheras parliamentary seat in the last general election.
The vacated Bukit Lanjan seat will be up for grabs between Pua Pei Ling of DAP and Muniraa Abu Bakar from Gerakan.
Pua is making her political debut in Bukit Lanjan, but was formerly the Gombak New Village coordinator and former aide to ex-Rawang assemblyman Gan Pei Nei.
Muniraa is a motivational speaker, educator and financial consultant.
Returning officers Mohamad Azan Md Amir (Kampung Tunku), Samsul Bahari Nonchi (Bandar Utama) and Mahzura Mohd Amin (Bukit Lanjan) made the announcements that all candidates who presented their documents were eligible to contest the seat at the Bandar Utama Community Hall in Petaling Jaya around 10.30am.
Earlier in the day, Pakatan Harapan supporters were first on the scene, showing up around 7am.
There was little to no commotion as supporters were organised and separated by barriers around the nomination centre.
Almost 200 police officers were deployed in the area, providing support for traffic and crowd control around the housing area.
