I’ll check with PM before announcing Selangor exco line-up, says Amirudin
SHAH ALAM: Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Amirudin Shari will seek Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s opinion before announcing the portfolios for his exco line-up.
Speaking to reporters after a gathering with the state’s civil servants on Tuesday (Aug 22), Amirudin said the portfolios would be announced and allocated accordingly the following day.
Asked if there would be any rehashing or changes to the portfolios, Amirudin said there was a need for revision to be in tandem with the Federal ministries.
“We have to streamline to match with the portfolios at Federal level because there are new (elements) in ministries such as cost of living, for example,” he said.
Amirudin also said the state also needed to adapt to the new additions to Federal portfolios such as climate change.
He added that the readjustment was needed as the state would have to coordinate administrative matters with Putrajaya.
When asked about the state’s investments, given that Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had spoken on the state’s declining economy, Amirudin said investments were all right.
“What Tuanku mentioned yesterday (Monday, Aug 21) was the export and import value.
“There is some displacement in Selangor’s economic programme.
“Part of it is that our economy is moving on to a service economy and so our manufacturing has become a little stagnant,” he explained.
He added that since the Covid-19 pandemic, the state’s economy had centred on services such as logistics and distribution, which enabled Selangor to remain as the nation’s biggest economic contributor.
Earlier, Amirudin told the state’s civil servants the Selangor government wanted to implement all the policies and promises that had been put forward and that they (the civil servants) must understand this.
He added that this was to ensure smooth delivery to the target groups.
