Ex Miss Hong Kong Halina Tam, 51 Now Sells Fishballs
TVB fans of a certain vintage would remember former actress Halina Tam.
She joined showbiz after winning the 1994 Miss Hong Kong pageant, and is probably best known for her role in the 2008 fantasy drama Legend of the Demigods opposite Linda Chung and Benny Chan.
She left TVB in 2011 after 18 years, reportedly due to low salary, and ventured into business.
Halina, who turned 51 on September 6, took to Instagram to share pics of her birthday celebration.
“Another year older, thanks to god brother Terry for giving me this delicious chestnut cake. [So] Simple and already very contented,” she posted, along with a bare-faced selfie.
Many fans and friends left messages wishing her a happy birthday, but there were netizens who expressed concern that she looked “scarily thin”.
There were comments that she was unrecognisable and urged her to eat more.
Halina has been doing well for herself since leaving showbiz.
With the help of her husband Eric Choi, an executive in the insurance industry, she opened a craft supplies store in 2013.
A year later, she ventured into F&B, opening a shop selling fishballs with a friend.
The business was so successful, it reportedly broke even within a month and at its peak, there were six outlets across Hong Kong.
In 2020, Halina opened cha chaan teng Cafe de JarGor and was said to be earning more from her businesses than she did at TVB.
However, like many, her businesses took a hit during the pandemic, and she now only has two snack shops and a cha chaan teng remaining.
