Six S’ban hospital workers nabbed for bribery

SEREMBAN: Two more employees of a government hospital here have been remanded for allegedly soliciting and receiving bribes from undertakers.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) obtained a five-day remand order on the duo, in their 30s and 40s, from a Magistrate’s Court here on Friday (Sept 29) morning.

The application was filed by MACC prosecuting officer Zainab Yahya before Magistrate Syed Farid Syed Ali.

This brings to six the total number of employees from the hospital nabbed for alleged involvement in corrupt activities.

The two in the latest arrest made by MACC were detained around 2.30pm on Thursday (Sept 28) in relation to the management of remains of non-Muslims at the hospital.

They allegedly received bribes from two companies between 2021 and last year in 12 bank transactions totaling RM3,500.

On Monday (Sept 25), the MACC obtained an order to remand four others for allegedly accepting some RM11,000 in bribes.

The suspects, three men and a woman in between 30s and 50s, allegedly accepted between RM100 and RM600 each time from the undertakers.

They were detained on Sunday (Sept 24) when they turned up at the MACC office to have their statements recorded.

They allegedly received the money via 42 transactions from two companies offering funeral services since last year

The cases are being probed under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
