Sindhu happy with her form despite semis defeat to Marin

PETALING JAYA: Indian shuttler P. V. Sindhu (pic) is determined to take the positives despite going down in the women’s singles semi-finals of the Denmark Open.

In an ill-tempered clash, world No. 12 Sindhu lost 18-21, 21-19, 7-21 to Spain’s world No. 6 Carolina Marin at the Jyske Bank Arena in Odense on Saturday.

Both players were shown yellow cards by the umpire after an altercation at the net in the third game.

Sindhu was unhappy after Marin took the shuttle from the former’s side of the court after winning a point.

Marin shrugged off the incident and kept her focus on the game while Sindhu could not maintain her form after winning the second game.

It was the latter’s 11th defeat to Marin in 16 encounters.

Sindhu though is keen to take the positives from the match.

“I’m happy with my performance. I think it has been a good two weeks for me,” said Sindhu in a post-match interview with Badminton Europe.

“I can take a lot of positives after reaching back-to-back semi-finals.

“There’s a lot more to learn from this. It would have been good if I had reached the final but I’m slowly getting there.

“I’m not too far away and hopefully I can do it soon,” added Sindhu, who is being coached by former Malaysian international Hafiz Hashim.

The 28-year-old had reached back-to-back semi-finals for the first time this year after going through a dip in form following a stress fracture in her left foot last August.

The 2019 world champion had also made it into the last four of the Arctic Open in Finland last week before coming second best to China’s world No. 10 Wang Zhiyi.
