Shanghai Halloween Parade Saw Really Creative Cosplayers Turning Up As China’s Most Controversial Stars
Stephanie Chan2023-11-02T21:38:16+08:00Did the stars come out to play for Halloween this year?
It almost seemed so at the Shanghai Halloween Parade where cosplayers walked the streets as celebs that headlined the news for not good reasons.
Here are a few of the most creative and hilarious looks from the night.
For a moment there, we really thought Blackpink’s Lisa might have attended the Halloween cosplay event.
It’s been said that Lisa has been cancelled in China following her Crazy Horse performance. According to reports, her Weibo account, which has over eight million followers, is now suspended and she has been removed as the face of fashion campaigns in China.
The cosplayer even mimicked the pop idol Cai Xukun‘s dribbling moves through the streets.
The 25-year-old was cancelled in China in July for allegedly having a one-night stand and forcing a woman to have an abortion, accusations Xukun has repeatedly denied.
Other than the mask of Austin Li Jiaqi’s face, we thought it hilarious when the cosplayer had the words “How is it expensive?” printed across his top.
Those words were the cause of Jiaqi’s dip in popularity, which you can read all about here.
The cosplayers dressed as Na Ying and Faye Wong were seen lip syncing to their iconic 1998 duet on the streets, drawing laughter from onlookers.
Back in 1998, the pop divas performed the song ‘Lets Meet in 1998’ during the Spring Festival Gala, which is known as the most-watched show in China. The perfomance was instantly iconic.
This year, Na Ying fell out of the public’s good graces because of sister’s involvement with singing competition Sing! China. Producers of the show have been accused of bullying the late Coco Lee.
We think the cosplayer got everything down right, including Ahn Jae-hong’s serene expression from K-drama Reply 1988.
The cosplayer was said to be shouting “My name is Chu Yuxun” much like how disgraced actress Zheng Shuang did from Watch The Meteor with You.
In 2021, Zheng Shuang’s career come to a halt after it was revealed she had abandoned her kids, whom she had via surrogacy, which is illegal in China, with her ex-boyfriend in the US.
She was also later found guilty of tax evasion and was fined 299mil yuan (S$56.5mil).
