Qin Lan’s Vocal Cords Are Severely Damaged, Doc Says Condition Is Incurable

Chinese reality show Divas Hit The Road, which follows celebs on their travels around the world, is back with its fifth season.

In the latest edition stars including Chinese actresses Qin Lan, Dilraba Dilmurat, aka Dilireba, and Xin Zhilei, will travel to exotic locales like Saudi Arabia, Croatia and Iceland.

When the show aired end October, there was a bit of buzz surrounding Qin Lan’s voice.

The 44-year-old actress appeared to have difficulty speaking and her voice sounded breathless all the time.

According to reports, Qin Lan had severely damaged her vocal cords, causing her to lose her voice.

Her work studio had previously confirmed that she suffers from vocal cord disorder, where one or both of her vocal cords cannot open or close properly.

She also suffered from a persistent sore throat and as a result has to carry a nebulizer when she’s filming.

Qin Lan had to take a four-month break while shooting 2022 drama Legacy to let her vocal cords rest.

In August this year, her condition recurred when she suffered altitude sickness while filming romance drama 亦舞之城 (Yi Wu Zhi Cheng) in Sichuan.

Anyway, back to Divas Hit The Road.

Though Qin Lan appeared cheerful and chatty on the show, she admitted that she’s very upset about her condition. It doesn’t help that doctors couldn’t find the cause and told her there’s no cure.

“Normally vocal cords are balanced in opening and closing, but for me, one side is open while the other cannot close,” she said.

“I feel sad and frustrated. Where has my beautiful voice gone?”

When Zhilei jokingly remarked, “People don’t usually speak when they are depressed,” Qin Lan retorted candidly, “I’m here, if I don’t speak, would you just stare at me? Would you treat me as an oddity? I have to be myself, I have to participate, I have to interact!”

Her response amused fans.

“Sister’s voice is already like this and she is still trying her best to be funny. [If it were me] I would definitely cry,” commented a netizen,

Another said, “When I watched Divas Hit The Road, I thought they added a funny voice-over [when Qin Lan spoke]. It was only when they talked about her condition that I knew she had a voice problems. She can really talk and at a quick speed too, so when paired with this voice, it sounds really funny.”
