Do not worry about summonses when applying for Ramadan bazaar slots, says Ipoh Mayor

IPOH: Traders who wish to apply for slots in the upcoming Ramadan bazaar do not need to worry about unpaid local council summons, says mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin.

He said the local council will try to make it easier for people to generate an income, especially after dealing with difficulties during the pandemic years.

“People have just started to recover from the pandemic and their economic situation. As a local council, we want to help them,” said Rumaizi.

“Traders with unpaid summons notices do not have to worry about it affecting their application,” he added when speaking to reporters after the Ipoh City Council (MBI) full board meeting at the MBI headquarters in Greentown on Thursday (Nov 30).

On Wed (Nov 29), a news portal reported that some traders in KL were disappointed after their applications to get a slot for the upcoming Ramadan bazaar at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman were rejected.

The traders believed the rejection was due to unpaid Kuala Lumpur City Hall notice summons.

The bazaar is expected to operate on the first day of Ramadan, which will be in the first week of March next year.

However, Rumaizi said the local council will be taking stern action on traders who rent out their bazaar spot to others.

“This is one of the problems we have had before. Some traders secured a spot and rented it out to other traders. While cases of this have decreased, we want to avoid it from happening again. So we will draft a plan to deal with it,” he said.

Rumaizi then said that the application will be open in January, and added that over 1,000 slots will be available in town.
