Fifteen places under Level 1 heatwave alert, says MetMalaysia
PETALING JAYA: Fifteen places in Malaysia, including Tangkak in Johor and Beaufort in Sabah, in under Level 1 heatwave alert.
In an advisory issued by the Meteorological Department on Friday (Fen 23), other places are Perlis, Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Pendang, Kulim, Baling, Sik, Padang Terap, and Bandar Baharu in Kedah, Hulu Perak and Kuala Kangsar in Perak.
Under the Level 1 heatwave alert, daily maximum temperatures could rise to between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius for three days continuously.
This is the highest number of places involved, since Feb 17, when 10 areas around the country came under the alert.
The country particularly the northern part of Peninsula Malaysia, is seeing the end of the northeast monsoon in March, with El Nino conditions also currently present.
This period usually sees drier and warmer conditions.
