Soon Huat-Shevon end six-year wait for title in Swiss Open

PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles shuttlers Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie defeated fellow Malaysians Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei to end their six-year wait for a title in the Swiss Open.

World No. 14 Soon Huat-Shevon played brilliantly to beat world No. 9 Tang Jie-Ee Wei 21-16, 21-13 in a surprisingly one sided final in Basel on Sunday (March 24) to capture their first title since winning the 2018 Singapore Open.

The independent pair also finally got it right in their third consecutive final in the tournament after finishing runners-up to Germany’s Mark Lamsfuss-Marvin Seidel and China’s Jiang Zhenbang-Wei Yaxin in the 2022 and 2023 editions respectively.

Meanwhile, Tang Jie-Ee Wei will have to be satisfied with their second runners-up finish of the year after also coming second best in the Thailand Masters in January to home favourites and 2021 world champions Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Sapsiree Taerattanachai.
