Akmal insists boycott will continue

SEPANG: Upon his return from Kota Kinabalu where Dr Muhammad Akmal Saleh had a run-in with the police, the Umno Youth chief says he will continue boycotting KK Super Mart.

He also said he would give full cooperation to the police and would give further statements if needed.

Dr Akmal said he was ready should he be charged in court.

The Merlimau assemblyman arrived from Kota Kinabalu at 2.17pm on Saturday (April 6) and was met at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport here by a group of Umno Youth members.

On the boycott, he said that it was a right of any consumer, insisting that this was not an offence.

“We stand firm to continue the boycott,” he said.

Asked when the boycott will end, he said: “Until the feelings of the Muslims in this country are healed.”

Dr Akmal was hauled up by the police in Kota Kinabalu Airport upon arrival on Friday (April 5).

On Friday, the IGP said the case had been classified under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for misuse of network facilities.

It was reported that Dr Akmal was in Sabah to attend Umno’s Kembara Ramadan programme in Beaufort.

Dr Akmal had come under criticism for calls to boycott KK Super Mart over the socks issue as well as a picture of him wielding a sword was posted on social media.
