Johor BN convention to focus on unity among component parties, says Ahmad Maslan

JOHOR BARU: The upcoming Johor Barisan Nasional convention, slated for next Saturday (June 8), will focus on maintaining unity among component parties, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

The state Barisan deputy chairman said Johor would be the first state to hold the convention, bringing together Umno, MCA and MIC, as well as Friends of BN at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre here.

”Unity among the parties within Barisan will be among the topics discussed, along with others such as youth voters, education and the economy,” he said in a press conference after chairing a preparation meeting at the Johor Umno liaison committee headquarters here on Thursday (May 30).

Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also Umno president, is expected to attend the convention, along with some 1,000 members, he said.

He added that the event would see speeches by leaders from the main component parties and Johor Barisan chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, who is also Mentri Besar.

“The convention will be the platform for the component parties to come up with a resolution to keep the 40 seats won by Barisan in the state election two years ago.

“We will also look at how to take the four seats we lost to the Opposition,” said Ahmad.
