PM Anwar commemorates Malaysia’s ‘groundbreaking’ diplomatic journey with China
PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reflected on a pivotal moment in Asian geopolitics, commemorating fifty years of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China.
“On May 31, 1974, our two nations embarked on a groundbreaking journey by establishing diplomatic relations,” said the Prime Minister.
He said as the first non-socialist country in South-East Asia to establish such a connection, Malaysia overcame ideological barriers and deep-rooted divergences to pursue a vision of international cooperation.
“Our leaders dared to think beyond convention and took a bold leap of faith,” said Anwar, acknowledging the historical significance of the decision.
Anwar said the Madani government remains staunchly dedicated to fortifying this crucial bond, recognising its importance for the collective prosperity of both nations and the broader region.
“I eagerly anticipate the official visit of Chinese Premier Li Qiang to Malaysia as we celebrate this historic milestone,” said the Prime Minister.
