Mavcom and CAAM merger proposal to be tabled in Parliament

PUTRAJAYA: The proposed bill on the merger of the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) will be tabled in the upcoming Parliament session, says Anthony Loke.

The Transport Minister said the Malaysian Aviation Commission Act (Repeal) 2024 bill and the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia Act 2017 (Amendment) bill would be tabled during the month-long session, which begins on June 24.

Once passed, Loke said the bills would see Mavcom and all its staff slowly integrated into CAAM over months, sometime next year. New departments would be set up to accommodate the changes.

“With this, there will be only one agency for both technical approval and license issuance,” he said at the Transport Ministry office here on Thursday (June 13).

He added that Mavcom is currently funded entirely through regulatory service charges, and CAAM would become an independent statutory body next year after absorbing Mavcom.

The second Meeting of the Third Session of the 15th Parliament will be held from June 24 to Aug 1 this year.
