Sg Bakap polls: It was an honest mistake, says PN candidate over ISO cert faux pas
NIBONG TEBAL: Emphasising that both Sungai Bakap by-election contenders have their own strengths, Perikatan Nasional candidate Abidin Ismail said he accepted the complaints about his academic credentials.
Abidin, who was out and about campaigning for the seat, said it was normal to draw comparisons between both candidates.
“What is important is that each of us have our own strengths.
“It is okay if people want to complain about the mistaken announcement about the ISO14001-2015 certification.
“It is their personal perception,” he told the press when met during a walkabout at the Taman Pekatra night market on Monday (June 24) evening.
Abidin, 56, was responding to questions about PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man stating that the former held an ISO14001-2015 certification during his candidacy announcement.
Abidin said it was an honest mistake.
“It is normal to make mistakes. ISO is only for companies and statutory bodies,” he added.
Abidin then shared that he has received good support from the public the past three days of campaigning.
“Everyone has been nice and have been speaking to me about their woes.
“Their concern is the rising prices of goods,” he said.
Abidin is engaged in a straight fight for the Sungai Bakap state seat by-elections, with Pakatan Harapan’s Dr Joohari Ariffin, 60, following the death of the incumbent Nor Zamri Latiff on May 24 due to stomach inflammation.
The Election Commission (EC) has set July 6 for polling and a 14-day campaign period running from June 22 until 11.59pm on July 5.
