Jay Chou Thinks He Could Be A Pro Tennis Player If He Pursued The Sport As A Kid; Fans Say “Chinese Music Scene Would’ve Been Ruined”

Have you ever thought about what profession you would pursue if you weren’t in your current line of work?

For Jay Chou, it would be a professional tennis player.

The Mandopop King, who is set to perform his Carnival World Tour at the Singapore National Stadium in October, revealed this when he showed off his tennis skills in an Instagram video last week.

Jay, 45, looked quite the pro, with his powerful forehand and serve. Not bad for someone who only picked up the sport last year.

“Sometimes I wonder if I started tennis a bit too late. If I picked it up as a kid as opposed to last year, maybe you’d see me on the court instead of a concert,” wrote Jay.

And deprive us of hits like ‘Silence’ and ‘Common Jasmine Orange’?

The video has since garnered over 2.9 million views with many of Jay’s celeb followers such as Taiwanese rapper Shou Lou praising his court abilities.

Professional tennis player Tseng Chun Hsin wrote: “If you started as a child, the Taiwanese version of Roger Federer would have been born.”

Crazy Rich Asians and Wicked director, Jon M Chu, too, was impressed, commenting: “Killing that slice.”

However, not all of Jay’s fans were thrilled with the idea.

One said: “If you started playing tennis in elementary school, the Chinese music scene would have been ruined.”

Another hilariously wrote: “If I don’t sing your songs, then whose music should I listen to?”

The ‘Mojito’ singer and his wife, Hannah Quinlivan, have clearly developed a passion for tennis.

In addition to hitting the court regularly, they have also been seen at Grand Slams like the Australian Open, where they were spotted rubbing shoulders with tennis legend Roger Federer.

That is quite an impressive serve.
And that forward swing!
Jay and his wife Hannah Quinlivan regularly post about their tennis games on social media.
Top notch inspiration? Jay (left) and Hannah (center) have been pals with tennis great Roger Federer (right) for years now.
