TikTok stunt in Tawau lands woman in trouble with the law
KOTA KINABALU: A TikToker’s bid for online fame backfired when she was arrested for inappropriate behaviour in front of a police vehicle.
Tawau district police chief Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said an investigation revealed that the 17-second video showed the 22-year-old woman engaging in lewd acts in a public space with a police car in the background in downtown Tawau around 4pm.
“After the video was posted online, a senior police officer, who also served as the complainant, filed a report against the woman’s TikTok account.
“A police team quickly detained the local woman on Thursday (Aug 1) to assist with the investigation,” he said.
Jasmin added that the woman had deliberately recorded the dance video for entertainment purposes, intending to share it on her TikTok account.
The video has since been removed.
“The suspect’s mobile phone and SIM card were also seized, and her statement has been recorded.
“The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 15 of the Minor Offences Ordinance of Sabah State Law,” he said.
