Firemen save man attempting to jump from Sandakan hospital’s first floor

KOTA KINABALU: A man was rescued by firemen while attempting to jump off the first floor of the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan on Wednesday (Aug 14) evening.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Services Department senior assistant fire commander Mohd Ishak Amran said a distress call about a suicide attempt was received from the hospital at 2.56pm.

Nine men from the Sandakan fire station rushed to the scene, arriving three minutes later, where they saw a man on the first floor of the building.

The 33-year-old, was trying to escape by jumping to an air conditioner compressor located outside the building before he was grabbed by firemen.

“He suffered injuries to his left shoulder and was given treatment. The man was later handed to the police for further action,” said Mohd Ishak.

The operation was called off at 5.26pm.
