Penang cops probing receipt containing words insulting Islam
BUTTERWORTH: Police are investigating an incident where a screenshot of a receipt containing an insulting message towards Islam was posted online.
Central Seberang Perai OCPD Asst Comm Helmi Aris said the screenshot was detected on Saturday (Sept 14) at about 8.30am.
“We suspect the transaction occurred in Central Seberang Perai and the screenshot of the receipt was uploaded by Malaysia Most Viral on their X account,” he said in a statement.
ACP Helmi said on Sept 13, police received a report from a worker at a fast food restaurant in Taman Inderawasih.
The complainant stated that while working, they received an online order at about 8.27pm.
The receipt’s remark section contained a message insulting Islam, attributed to an irresponsible individual.
An online food order had been placed through the premises’ website. After reviewing the receipt, there was a remark on it that insulted Islam, he said.
ACP Helmi said further investigation revealed that the individual who allegedly made the order denied placing it.
He added that police suspect the person’s details and address were misused by someone else.
It is also learned that the website lacks proper security features to protect users when placing orders.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 298 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.
