Pearly-Thinaah put up fighting show to reach second round in Denmark

ODENSE: Top pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah survived a scare to reach the women’s doubles second round in the Denmark Open.

They had to dig deep to beat Tresa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand of India 19-21, 21-17, 21-15 at Jyske Bank Arena on Wednesday (Oct 16).

The reigning Arctic Open runners-up were slow to find their rhythm and lost the opening game 19-21.

And it was close in the second too and Pearly had to get treatment for her blister at 17-17 but when she was back on her feet, she played much better.

In fact, a few clever moves from Pearly saw the duo forcing the game to decider.

It was tight at first in the rubber game but Pearly-Thinaah hung in there to pull off another well-fought win against the determined Indians.

“We did not get off to a good start and took time to adjust but glad that we prevailed to win,” said Pearly.

Said Thinaah: “We tried to focus in our game and kept supporting one another. We hope to do the same in the second game.”

They will play the winners of the match between Lee Yu-lim-Shin Seung-chan of South Korea and Scotland’s Julie Macpherson-Ciara Torrance
