Pedestrians In HK Chased By Traffic Police For Jaywalking, Fined S$345
And you think traffic laws in Singapore are strict.
A Xiaohongshu user recently posted a clip of two female pedestrians jaywalking in Hong Kong.
The twist? They were later chased down by traffic police, who were on surveillance duty nearby, and handed a fine.
One of the ladies even tried to turn around and run from the officer, but was intercepted by another officer who was on the other side of the road.
Guess there’s no escaping the long arm of the law.
According to the netizen, those caught jaywalking in Hong Kong will be fined HK$2K (S$345).
While some found the officers’ method of maintaining the law “scary” and “shocking”, a good number believe it necessary to “keep people in line”.
“They’ll get fined once and remember not to jaywalk again for the rest of their lives,” read a comment.
Another netizen mentioned that pedestrians could also be fined should they be caught crossing the road while the green light is already flashing.
So the next time you think to complain about the strict traffic laws in Singapore, just be glad that we don’t have officers chasing us across roads to hand us fines.
