Security guards lodge report claiming company’s van robbed in attempt for RM200,000 theft

ALOR SETAR: Three security guards lodged a false report claiming that their security company’s van had been robbed in an attempt to steal RM200,000.

They were subsequently arrested by police for criminal breach of trust on Tuesday (Nov 19), reported Sinar Harian.

Acting Kota Setar District Police Chief, Superintendent Syed Basri Syed Ali, said the three individuals had initially claimed in their report that the company’s van they were driving had been robbed and that a sack containing RM200,000 had been taken.

He said during the 12pm incident, the security guards were en route to deliver money to a financial institution after collecting it from a bank in Mergong.

“Their tactic was exposed after the police grew suspicious of their initial statements, which appeared dubious.

“The police managed to uncover their scheme and recovered the stolen money within two hours,” he said during a press conference at the Kota Setar District Police Headquarters on Thursday (Nov 21).

He added that following the incident, the company also lodged a police report for further action.

“All the suspects, who are local citizens aged between 28 and 38, have been remanded for three days starting November 20.

“The police have also seized several items, including three mobile phones, company uniforms, the stolen cash, the container used to store the money, and a motorcycle,” he said.

Supt Syed Basri added that two of the three suspects also tested positive for methamphetamine.

“However, none of them have any prior criminal records,” he said.
