Families of Kelantan flood victims sending out SOS messages on TikTok
KOTA BARU: Several individuals have taken to social media platform TikTok to seek help for their families stranded by floods in Kelantan.
According to a survey by Bernama, TikTok user named Sufia Syahida said she used the platform as she was unable to contact her mother in Pondok Gelang Mas, Meranti in Pasir Mas.
In a post on Friday (Nov 29), Sufia said she last spoke with her 71-year-old mother at 7am who wanted to wade through floodwater to get food and clean water after being trapped for two days.
In her latest post on Saturday (Nov 30) morning, Sufia said she managed to contact a resident in the area who requested a photograph of her mother so he could search for her in two places where flood victims are gathering.
“If I find (my mother), I will update and ask someone to take my mother out of there. But currents are strong and waters are deep. The person said there is still rice but they have run out of other food. They have to ration food as well as no aid is getting in there,” she said.
Meanwhile, TikTok user Syzmira.bakri said she posted about her parents who were trapped in Kampung Bakong, Pasir Mas.
She asked for help by posting several photographs of her parents’ house, which was flooded.
She later said her parents and other residents were rescued on Friday night after being trapped for over a day and are now staying at a relative’s house.
“Thank God for the person who helped rescue my mother and father,” she said in her latest post. – Bernama
