PUTRAJAYA: Anti-graft officers have arrested a civil servant and a company owner over alleged bribery involving construction projects valued at RM250mil awarded by one of the district public works departments in Sarawak.

It is believed that the two male suspects in their 40s and 50s were detained at 5.30am on Thursday (Dec 5) when they presented themselves at the state Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office to have their statements recorded.

Sources with knowledge of the investigation said the two suspects, of which the company owner is a Datuk, were believed to have given and accepted bribes between 2022 and this year.

It is learnt that the two had conspired to ensure several companies were awarded construction projects in the said district.

Sources said that both suspects were tested positive for methamphetamine.

The duo have been remanded for four days until December 9 after Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan granted the application.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the arrests.

He said more arrests are expected to be made involving the case.
