JB cops raid nightclub, 78 arrested for alleged drug use
JOHOR BARU: Police have raided a nightclub and arrested a total of 78 individuals for alleged drug use during a special operation here.
Johor Police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar said the operation was conducted by the Johor Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) and the Johor Baru South Narcotics Unit at 2.30am on Friday (Dec 13).
“The raid involved four officers and 26 personnel. During the raid, police inspected 211 individuals present at the venue.
“Although the premises had valid business and entertainment licenses, it was operating beyond permitted hours.
“Preliminary urine tests revealed that 63 local men, four local women and 11 foreign women tested positive for drugs, including methamphetamine, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), ketamine, and benzodiazepine,” he said in a statement here on Saturday (Dec 14).
Comm Kumar added that the arrested individuals were aged 18 to 40.
He also shared that during the inspection, 2.07g of ketamine was discovered in two rooms.
“Police arrested four local men and four foreign women in connection with the drug possession.
“The operation also saw the detention of 35 foreign nationals for further investigation under the Immigration Act and another who was the cashier under the Johor Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Enactment,” he said.
Eight suspects were remanded for four days from Dec 13 to 16 under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act for drug possession.
Meanwhile, 70 individuals were remanded for two days from Dec 14 to 15 under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act for drug use.
The case is being investigated under Section 11(2) of the Johor Entertainment Places Enactment for operating an entertainment centre beyond the allowed time.
It is also investigated under Section 55B of the Immigration Act for hiring foreign workers without a permit and Section 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations for violating the requirement of their visit pass.
The foreign individuals will also be investigated under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act for entering the country without valid travel documents and overstaying.
