Sivasangari’s journey ends in the World Championship
PETALING JAYA: National squash ace S. Sivasangari’s challenge has ended in the World Championship.
The 26-year-old, seeded seventh in the prestigious tournament, lost 3-11, 11-8, 4-11, 5-11 to fourth seed American Olivia Weaver in the quarter-finals at the Lakeshore Sport and Fitness in Chicago on Thursday (May 15).
Weaver will face second seed Egyptian Nour El-Sherbini, while the other semi-final is an all-Egyptian affair, with top seed Nouran Gohar taking on third seed Hania El-Hammamy.
Despite the defeat, Sivasangari’s outing in Chicago was memorable.
It was her first last eight appearance and she had also ended Malaysia’s eight-year wait to reach the quarter-finals in the world meet.
