Just ask Chinese actor Xu Kai.
The 30-year-old, who shot to fame with 2018 hit period drama Story of Yanxi Palace, is no stranger to being mobbed by fans.
But things took a disturbing turn recently when he was swarmed by obsessive “sasaeng” fans at a subway station in Shenzhen.
These overzealous fans, known for stalking and invasive behaviour, were seen filming Xu Kai’s every move as he tried to make his way through the station.
In a video circulating online, Xu Kai was dressed in all black, wearing a cap and mask in an attempt to stay low-profile.
Despite being accompanied by staff, the actor was quickly surrounded.
Not only was he unable to move freely, but the commotion also disrupted other commuters.
Frustrated, Xu Kai yelled: “Stop filming! We keep getting scolded because of you all. Didn’t you hear the passers-by complaining non-stop? Don’t disrupt public order.”
But fans ignored him and continued filming him.
Following the incident, Xu Kai’s work studio issued a statement condemning the harassment: “We firmly oppose all sasaeng behaviour, including but not limited to following cars, planes, trains, harassment, unauthorised photography or distribution of such content. We will not hesitate to report to the police if necessary. There will be zero tolerance!”
They also called on fans to be rational when chasing stars.
