Chinese businessman, director, and actor Zheng Jifeng, 54, was detained by authorities earlier this year after being suspected of child molestation.
Following that, several young actors who’ve worked with the Jiangxi native have come out to reveal details about the instances in which they’d been violated by him.
According to one victim, Ms Wang, she was around 13 years old when she was sexually harassed and molested by Jifeng under the guise of filming for a show. He also tried to lure her to a hotel on the pretext of changing up her role in the show.
Fortunately, Wang received a call in the nick of time and was able to escape.
Wang revealed that nearly all seven of the girls who worked on that particular show had, at one time or another, been forcefully kissed by Jifeng. The youngest girl, according to her, was only 12 at that time.
Another actress, Kan Lina, who had a minor role in The Legend of Zhu Bajie, a 2019 film directed by Jifeng, also spoke up about his misdeeds.
“I’ve also been sexually harassed by Zheng Jifeng in the past”, wrote Lina, who recalled being only 12 during the audition in 2017. Upon getting the role of one of the ‘seven fairies’, Lina experienced endless harassment from Jifeng during filming. He also threatened to delete her scenes and change her roles.
“He even said things like ‘if you sleep with him, you can play the female lead’,” said Lina, who added that among the girls who played the ‘seven fairies’ in the show, there were likely six who had been harassed by Jifeng.
On Aug 12, the prosecutor’s office at Haikou Political and Legal Department arrested Jifeng. His case is now pending trial.
Jifeng is best known for his appearance in the Stephen Chow film, The Mermaid (2016), where he played the role of ‘CEO Zheng’, a capricious tycoon with a love for flying gadgets. Jifeng is also the owner of five successful companies.
According to China’s criminal law, those found guilty of indecent assault against minors can be sentenced to imprisonment for up to five years.
According to reports citing experts in the legal field, Jifeng can face an imprisonment term of anywhere from five to 15 years, as there are numerous factors to consider in Jifeng’s case. These include multiple offences, numerous victims, and taking advantage of one’s profession to commit crimes.
