Johor govt proposes more pick-up, drop-off points for cross-border cabs
KLUANG: Johor has proposed an increase in the number of pick-up and drop-off points for cross-border passenger transport service vehicles, says state executive councillor Mohd Fazli Mohamad Salleh.
The Public Works, Transport, Infrastructure and Communication committee chairman said taxis are currently only allowed to use one designated point each in Johor and Singapore.
“The current practice is that Malaysian taxis can only drop passengers off at one location in Singapore, which is at Rochor Road.
“Similarly, Singaporean taxis are only allowed to drop off passengers at Larkin Sentral.
“We have proposed for Malaysian drivers to have five additional places to pick up and drop off passengers in Singapore and vice versa for the first phase,” he added.
He said for the second phase, the state proposed for some vehicles to be able to provide door-to-door services.
Mohd Fazli said this when met by reporters after attending the launch of “Laman Rel Mahkota”, officiated by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
He added that the state government had also held talks with the Transport Ministry about cross-border e-hailing services.
“We have brought the matter up to the Transport Ministry as this involves all e-hailing companies, not just one.
“It’s not only Malaysian e-hailing services that are barred from entering Singapore, but Singaporean drivers offering the same services here have also faced action from our Transport Ministry,” he said.
It was reported that 19 drivers were caught offering illegal ride-hailing services between Johor and Singapore on Aug 5.
They were nabbed during a joint operation by Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) and the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority.
Malaysia’s Road Transport Department (JPJ) had also begun a similar operation on Singaporean vehicles on Aug 9.
