Cops still probing involvement of prominent figure in attack on Rafizi’s son

KUALA LUMPUR: The police are still investigating the alleged involvement of a prominent individual linked to the recent attack on the son of former economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli.

The incident took place at a shopping mall in Putrajaya on Aug 13, when Rafizi’s 12-year-old son was reportedly assaulted by two men on a motorcycle, who injected him with a liquid before fleeing the scene.

Rafizi previously disclosed the name of an individual he believes orchestrated the attack, while dismissing speculation that former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin were involved.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said investigations are still ongoing.

“At this stage, the allegations cannot be confirmed as the case is still under investigation,” he told reporters after launching the third instalment of the PDRM Special Dialogue Series on Tuesday (Aug 26).

Last Friday, police confirmed that the phone number used to send the threats to Rafizi’s wife was registered under the name of a foreign national.

The attack took place when Rafizi, his wife and son were leaving the shopping mall. According to Rafizi, the two assailants, dressed in black, confronted them near the pickup area before targeting his son.
