Indonesian man gets two years jail for human trafficking

PETALING JAYA: An Indonesian man has been sentenced to two years in jail after being found guilty of human trafficking.

Immigration Department director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said that the 31-year-old was sentenced for the smuggling of four Indonesian migrants after a prior operation in August this year.

“The operation took place on Aug 29 at Jalan Putra in Taman Putra Kajang, Selangor, where the suspect and the four migrants were found inside a house at the stated address.

“The department reiterates its firm and continuous commitment to combating all forms of migrant smuggling and human trafficking.

“Strict legal action, without compromise, will be taken against any individual, syndicate, employer or premise owner who employs, shelters or collaborates with illegal immigrants, as well as against any foreigner entering or residing in Malaysia without valid authorisation,” he said in a statement on Friday (Nov 7).

He added that the department was also committed to strengthening enforcement operations to safeguard the country’s sovereignty.
