Malaysia pursues extradition of Goldman Sachs’ Tim Leissner amid 1MDB proceedings

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian government had submitted an extradition request for Tim Leissner of Goldman Sachs to the United States Government.

In an update regarding the 1 Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) proceedings, the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) said the request to enable Leissner’s trial in Malaysia was submitted on Aug 14, 2024.

“Malaysia continues to seek to obtain previously unobtainable documents and individuals, including Tim Leissner, who have never been heard from in the Malaysian justice system,” it said in a statement on Friday (Dec 12).

The AGC said new information has emerged since 2023, following Roger Ng’s return to Malaysia to face Malaysian investigators after his trial and conviction in the United States.

“Malaysia will not relent in its pursuit of fair and appropriate recovery from global banking giants and all those who participated in the criminal acts,” said the AGC.

It added that Malaysia has also taken additional steps, including providing further information requested by US authorities to support this effort.
