Yao Ming’s 15-Yr-Old Daughter Steals The Spotlight As His Translator At Charity Event

Netizens praised the 1.9m-tall teen’s confidence and bilingual upbringing.

Basketball legend Yao Ming and his daughter Yao Qinlei were recently spotted together at the Yao Foundation charity gala in Shanghai but this time, the 15-year-old wasn’t just attending as his plus one.

Qinlei, who stands at around 1.9m tall — the same height as her mother, former pro-basketballer Ye Li — joined Yao Ming on stage as he addressed guests at the event, which supports youth development and sports education. She acted as his translator and delivered his speech in fluent English.

Though she looked slightly nervous at first, Qinlei executed her role perfectly, with Yao Ming watching proudly by her side. The pair even shared a cute high-five before stepping off the stage.

Qinlei drew plenty of attention for both her poise and her height — she already stands at her 2.29m-tall father’s shoulder. Netizens were also impressed by her English proficiency, with some remarking: “Yao doesn’t need an English translator anymore.”

Others joked that after nine years in the NBA, Yao Ming could probably have delivered the speech in English himself, but chose to let his daughter shine instead.

According to reports, Qinlei attended a bilingual kindergarten programme in Shanghai, where English was part of her early education.

The father-daughter duo were all smiles as they returned to their seats, with many commenters noting just how grown-up Qinlei looks now.
