It’s truly a blast from the past — or rather, a step back into the past.
24 years after TVB drama A Step Into the Past first captured audiences, the beloved time-travel classic is making its long-awaited leap onto the big screen.
The film sequel Back To The Past reunites the original ensemble cast, including Louis Koo, Raymond Lam, Jessica Hsuan, Sonija Kwok, and Joyce Tang, reprising their iconic roles. Louis also serves as executive producer.
Based on the novel by Huang Yi, the original series told the story of a 21st-century Hong Kong police officer, Hong Siu Lung (Louis), who travels back in time to the Warring States period of ancient China. The upcoming film is set 19 years after the events of the TV series, picking up the story decades later.
As the movie gears up for its release on December 31, the cast have been dropping behind-the-scenes treats on social media.
One photo in particular sent fans straight back to the early 2000s.
Joyce, 49, who plays the sharp-tongued warrior Sin Yau, posted a group shot with Jessica, 55, and Sonija, 51 — the three women who were romantically entangled with Louis’s Hong Siu Lung.
The reunion left netizens in disbelief over their seemingly age-defying looks, with many commenting the trio “haven’t changed at all” and look “just as beautiful” as they did decades ago.
It’s like they stepped straight back into the past.
Adding fuel to the nostalgia, Joyce also shared a photo of herself holding a familiar crystal prop from the TV drama.
In the original series, the crystal was a token of love between Sin Yau and Siu Lung, in a memorable scene where he used light refraction to “create” a rainbow to win her heart.
Her post has left fans wondering whether the iconic storyline — and the crystal — might make a return in the movie version.
