Decomposing body found in Tawau shoplot
KOTA KINABALU: A foul smell coming from an empty shop led to the discovery of a man’s decomposing body in Tawau.
Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said the man, believed to be homeless, had been dead for about a week before he was found in the building at Batu 15, Jalan Apas, at 11am on Monday (Dec 29)
He said the man was found lying face down with his head on a pillow, and could have died in his sleep.
“Checks at the scene did not find any injuries or criminal elements in his death.
“Preliminary estimates suggest the man had been at the location for about a week before being found,” he said in a statement, adding that the body was taken to Hospital Tawau for a post-mortem.
He said the man was known in the area by the nickname Nordin and was in his 30s.
“Our investigations are continuing to determine the actual cause of death,” he said, adding that the matter has been classified as a sudden death report pending the post-mortem results.
