Man Marries Wife’s Close Friend As Second Wife
Stephanie Chan2026-01-19T23:33:35+08:00A Malaysian man has drawn online attention after marrying a second wife who was once a close friend of his first wife.
Speaking to Malaysian media, the first wife, Shuhadah Jaafar, said she was initially heartbroken when she learned that her husband, Muhammad Azizi Zakaria, had developed feelings for her friend and intended to marry her.
Shuhadah explained that she had met said friend, Nor Azura, through custom clothing orders at her boutique and occasionally attended events with her, which made her husband’s proposal all the more shocking.
“Which wife would want to be in a polygamous marriage?” she said.
Despite the revelation, Shuhadah gave the matter careful thought and ultimately decided to accept her husband’s decision. She came to believe that his intentions were driven by family and career considerations rather than mere desire.
She also felt sympathy for Nor Azura, whom she knew had tough life experiences in the past.
Shuhadah stressed that she shared the story on social media to prevent speculation and misunderstandings, and to remind men who wish to take multiple wives to be honest with their first wife rather than marrying secretly. She accepted her husband’s wish because he had been “honest” and wanted to “legally formalise” the relationship.
She said she intends to maintain a good relationship with Azura and work together to ensure her husband treats both wives and their children fairly. She also urged the public not to judge or label Azura as a “home-wrecker.”
Meanwhile, Muhammad Azizi has expressed gratitude for Shuhadah’s understanding, saying he was touched that she personally went to the Syariah Court to support his second marriage. In line with her wishes, the wedding ceremony was held at their home rather than a religious venue.
Muhammad Azizi admitted his feelings for Nor Azura were unexpected. Though he initially tried to distance himself, he realised his “heart was already attached”. To avoid negative consequences, he chose to be transparent with Shuhadah and follow legal procedures before marrying a second time.
He emphasised that the marriage was not motivated by lust, but rather, by a desire to provide protection and guidance to his second wife. According to reports, he and Azura run a business together, and he wanted to do what he believed was right.
Azizi also urged men considering polygamy to prioritise honesty and open communication to avoid hurting their wives.
Shuhadah and Nor Azura still have a good relationship, and the trio is reportedly living together harmoniously with the common goal of treating one another fairly with mutual understanding as they work at building a stable and fulfilling life together.
