Aaron-Khai Xing stun Indonesian third seeds to march into Swiss Open quarters
PETALING JAYA: Young men’s doubles pair Aaron Tai-Kang Khai Xing continued their impressive run in the Swiss Open after upsetting Indonesia’s third seeds Leo Rolly-Bagas Maulana to reach the quarter-finals on Thursday (March 12).
The second-round match at St Jakobshalle in Basel saw Aaron-Khai Xing pushed hard before they overcame the Indonesian pair, 21-12, 21-23, 21-16.
The victory sends Aaron-Khai Xing into the quarter-finals, where they will face Denmark’s seventh seeds Daniel Lundgaard-Mads Vestergaard.
It was a different story for another Malaysian pair, Nur Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong, who went down to Thailand’s Peeratchai Sukphun-Pakkapon Teeraratsakul 21-18, 19-21, 21-15.
In the women’s singles, Wong Ling Ching’s campaign ended after she lost to top seed Putri Kusuma of Indonesia 17-21, 15-21.
Meanwhile, mixed doubles pair Jimmy Wong-Lai Pei Jing also bowed out after going down to Indonesia’s Jafar Hidayatullah-Felisha Pasaribu 8-21, 11-21.
